Paving and Landscaping Questions

What homeowners and businesses ask before scheduling a job.

What does an asphalt paving contractor do?
An asphalt paving contractor builds and repairs the asphalt, or blacktop, that people drive and park on. For homes and businesses around Lehighton, NS Paving and Landscaping handles new paving, resurfacing, sealcoating and asphalt patching. We also regrade gravel driveways and take on landscaping work.
Do you take commercial jobs and small repairs?
Yes to both. We pave commercial parking lots for businesses and developments, and bigger jobs like these are the work we want most. We also patch existing holes with hot asphalt and sealcoat driveways, and we offer latex sealcoating for commercial lots.
What is the difference between asphalt resurfacing and new paving?
Asphalt resurfacing puts a fresh layer of asphalt over a worn surface whose base is still solid. New paving builds the surface from the stone base up, and a full replacement removes the old asphalt first. We look at the cracks and the base, then tell you which one your job needs.
What does sealcoating do for asphalt?
Asphalt sealcoating renews a surface that has turned dry and brittle with age, and it seals small surface cracks. The surface gets cleaned and any holes get patched before the coat goes on. The coat needs warm, dry weather to cure, so around Lehighton the work runs from late spring through early fall.
When is paving season around Lehighton?
Hot asphalt has to be rolled before it cools to 185 degrees, per asphalt industry guidance. Cold air and wet ground cool it too fast, so paving needs mild, dry days. NOAA's climate normals for Lehighton put the typical last spring freeze near April 21. The first fall freeze comes near October 23, and those dates set the paving calendar here.
Do I need a permit for a new driveway in Lehighton?
Lehighton's zoning permit application calls for a borough driveway permit when a new driveway meets a borough road. Where it meets a state highway, the permit is PennDOT's highway occupancy permit. Repaving in place can be a different case, and the borough's codes and zoning office answers that. We point you to the right office before work starts.
What landscaping work do you do?
Our landscape design plans the plantings and the hardscapes for your yard. We build patios and other hardscapes, and we install walkways and sidewalks. Patio work can include decorative concrete. We do not offer lawn mowing or ongoing yard maintenance. Plant installs, stump removal and mulch come as occasional add-ons to a paving job.
What area do you serve?
Our service area reaches about 40 miles around Lehighton. That covers Carbon, Monroe, Northampton, Lehigh, Schuylkill and Luzerne Counties. Towns in that area include Jim Thorpe, Palmerton, Tamaqua, Hazleton, Pottsville, Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton.
How does pricing work?
We price each job after a free estimate, then put the quote in writing. On paving jobs, size drives the price, along with base work and any old asphalt to remove. On landscaping jobs, the plan and the materials set it. Call or text (484) 545-5072 to set up your estimate.
